From May to November, thirty-five thousand humpbacks trace the East Australian Current north to warm breeding waters and back again. For a few held months, one of the greatest migrations on Earth passes within sight of our shore.

For a few weeks each year, forty tonnes of intelligence lifts gently out of the Pacific twenty metres from your railing. Time slows. The boat goes quiet. Everyone on board becomes, for one held breath, part of the same ocean.
